Gotta love good old Newt, the self-declared superior intellect of the GOP, the self-serving genius [sic] who molded the Grand Old Party in his image, yadayadayada, all when Newt couldn't even get tenure as assistant professor at then backwater West Georgia College. Gingrich saw the writing on the wall. His academic balloon was popped. He was going nowhere fast. So he found his salvation: the cesspool of the Republican Party. Gotta hand it to Newt. He's a genius at being a total F N loser. And an unabashed fascist.
All proof that it does not take brains to wallow in the gutter.
You can combat evil. Evil has plans and goals. Evil is rational (at least within the human sense).
What you cannot fight is stupid, because it is simply there and it is persistent. It permeates humanity and human behavior. It's why we have warning labels on stuff telling people not to do things (like make toast while taking a bath). Why we always warn people about driving and texting.... about wearing your seat belt... a lot of things.
It is a continual effort to simply mitigate the worst effects of stupid. It kills thousands every year. Sickens or cripples more.
People like Howley feed on stupid. They need it to survive. Go though the checkout line at a lot of places and look at the racks by the register--at the tabloids, with their front page stupid for all to see and buy. Youtube is full of examples of stupid that people laugh at (and then go and do something as equally stupid).
No amount of education or training can fix it. It is in the bone.
When you combine the stupid with the willingness of people to believe things that make them happy (even if they are lies), you get a "winning" combination.
The delight that these right wingers get out of going after the apolitical children of those on the other side is just sadistic and perverse. They went after Chelsea, Obama's girls, they're still going at Hunter, and now Pelosi's kids? Who cares? These pathetic haters need to get a life.
It is remarkable that, while you can use the internet to spread your deplorable opinions far and wide, there are so many people who are proud to willingly do so and to put their names on them. This sick crowd was no doubt emboldened by the shamelessness of their idol, Trump.
Charlie's not in a good mood today after that GB loss Sat. How can I tell? Writing about raw sewage of the Twittersphere not an appealing way to start the week. :-)
I do wonder how long it will take people to realize that when the left goes 'the right was always like this' and they go 'no we weren't, Trumpism is an anomaly' that this is immediately proven false when you look at the admiration of Franco, an actual Fascist dictator. It's very hard to see current conservative politics as being different when they've been fantasizing and boosting regimes like Franco, Peron, and now Orban and Putin. It's not that they're different, it's that, as our troll profile today shows, they're just more direct and crude about what they believe and more desperate to create their own version.
It's sad, but it does prove that unless anti-Trump conservatives come up with some new ideas, they're going to be as dead as a political force as whigs were.
I was just reminded of how widespread what Charlie is rightfully complaining about here is, when I read an article elsewhere, pointing out how Faux Snooze is now the leading media purveyor of every anti-vax "disinformation," despite it now being well-known that it's a condition to walk into their building in NYC that one be fully-vaxxed, including a booster. And that Rupert Murdoch was one of the first people to get a vaccination, using his power to jump to the head of the line.
If only that Iraqi farmer had been an hour later finding the young Australian Flying Corps pilot who had crashed in the Tigris Marshes in 1916. The young pilot would never have survived to have been invalided back to Australia and fallen in love with his nurse aboard the hospital ship and married her and sired a son named Rupert.... It's always the little things in History that have the Big Results.
Hypocrites can be found everywhere, but the complete, totally shameless hypocrisy of the Right is almost its own species of hypocrisy.
For far too long, Conservatives didn't pay attention to the trolls that were ALWAYS a part of their coalition. The big brained Conservatives that have long held "principled" stances against many of the positions on the left, were never willing to look any deeper into the recesses of the movement where the fascists, racists, sexists, and on and on resided.
Turns out many of them weren't really "principled" at all, just willing to ride the ride as long as they were cashing checks. The internet has given these people a power that Buckley and Goldwater couldn't have imagined.
While the topic is depressing as hell, I'm glad Charlie wrote about Patrick Howley because he represents the continued rise of the grifter operative, especially in the Republican Party.
Like Breitbart and Limbaugh before, Howley is an explicit bigot who rallies other explicit bigots, and the continued rise of white nationalist types in an American society continues to destabilize it.
In a nation that is only 60% white, we can't survive with successful Howley types indefinitely.
What's wrong with me? I'm a smart white woman and I could have been making millions over the past 20 spouting nonsense.
I could have started my own racist, gun loving online rag and raked in the cash from idiots. It's apparently easy money. As someone once said "there is a sucker born every minute".
Where are the "good" GOPers like Hogan, Romney, Murkowski, and Collins on these issues? If they'd just quit the GOP and be independent like King is, they'd ate least have show they have some dignity
Nice to note that when the "Girth-Lookalike of the Snowflake/Secessionist-in-Chief, was living off the largess of his wife's Ambassadorial pocketbook, that Gingrich was studying Constitutional Law for four years.
No surprise that reality was absent from his first consultative "policy" for the party in 2024.
Surprised that he didn't offer the usual cult chant "Lock Them Up," but he probably didn't want to confuse the ReTrumplican't boobwazie as who who he was sending out the call for lock-up.
It will be a difficult call for the rank and file to choose who most emulates the girth of William Howard Taft: The Former Guy (Trump), the Former Disgraced House Speaker (Gingrich), the Wannabe President (DeSantis), and the Former Self-Declared Legal Scholar and Human Being (Cruz).
You think the former guy doesn't needle Cruz about being portrayed by a woman on SNL.
I don't have to defend my credentials, but I will, I always feel I have, becuase we, Spaniards, have to "because of Franco." I am the daughter of an (ilegal) Spanish trade-unionist during the 50s, my parents house was raided twice by police in the late 1960s, my father joined the Socialist Party and campaigned for them during the first democratic elections of 1978... And with all of that, I can't even start to list all the things that are wrong about the references to the Spanish Civil War and Franco. I would not have time or space to do it. In any case, after 28 years in the US, this is not new to me. It is simply the ways thing are. Last year I read for the first time Clara Campoamor's book "La revolución española vista por una republicana." Vlara Campoamor is credited for bringing the right to vote for women to Spain. She was one of the 2 first parliamentarians elected as "diputada“ (equivalent of Congress) during the Spanish Second Republic. She left Spain at the beginning of the Civil War and died in Switzerland in exhile. She was never allowed back. But in her book she talks about a war where there were not good or bad sides. A radicalized left sold to Stalin (yes it is true, not a fabrication of American conservatives) and a radicaled right inmersed in paranoia and nostalgia from an imperial better past (while at the same time terrorized by the stslinisy militias who had killed the conservative leader at the beginning of the war). In the ship to Italy she took running away from Spain, she was harassed and almost killed by a Falangist friendly group... You get the idea. And yet, the generalized concept in the US is that the Republicans were all saintly good, and the Francoist and royalist all evil. I don't have to yell you, go ahead and read the book. It was much more complicated than that.
How can you have a democracy without a shared reality? How can you have a shared reality without somehow drowning out misinformation trolls?
For some reason, the axiom “Every accusation is really a confession” keeps running through my mind this morning. I have no idea why

Newt needs to crawl back under the rock from which he oozed.

Peter Crumpet lolololol. Sounds about as fake of a name as Newt Gingrich.
