I want to thank Benny Johnson for all the wonderful advertising he is doing for Bud Light and its manufacturer. Such broad coverage would have cost millions if undertaken by the brewer.

There was a time when the Catholic Church published a list of books they banned. Books banned in Boston became a "Must Read" list for all of us who weren't under the thumb of the Church. Even books that weren't well written profited by being banned.

The most famous of all"banning" efforts was against alcohol and we all know how that turned out.

Focusing on the Greg Abbott story, but consistent with the Tennessee state house and MTG .... unless entire sections of the GOP officialdom resign from the party - we are nowhere near reforming the GOP.

Glad to see our elected officials are so keen to jump on any culture war topic they can, in the craven hope of getting some Fox-time and some attention from the base. Why govern in a reasonable way, and let the courts and juries do their jobs? We are doomed.

I'd like to take a more positive view of Tim Scott, at least assume he's decent and means well, but I can't. The first half of every statement made or position taken leans toward nobility, and by the time he finishes the sentence it's pure opportunism dripping with piety. Pence is similar, but deserves a pass for doing what was right on Jan. 6 at great political cost. I can't tell you with any certainty what Scott would have done that day in the same situation. If he himself knew, he'd never utter it publicly.

DeSantis is epitome of a misanthrope: he hates everyone. Either that or he is a bigoted meatball who knows most of his startling legal moves will be struck down by the courts.

A tad off topic, but it did show up on Jim Swift's email - a 21-yr-old MAGA-be was arrested for stealing/distributing top secret documents. Way to go, kid - wreck your entire life for MAGA. You'll be very popular in Leavenworth or Gitmo. And dear little Marjorie is already complaining that he's being treated as a criminal. Makes me wonder what national secrets she thinking of/or already is peddling to the anyone who'll pay for it.

Balko used exactly the correct word regarding the political milieu now blooming on the right: degeneracy. And no one there exemplifies it more than Abbott with his wholehearted, clear and loudly stated intent to eviscerate and nullify the rule of law by pardoning the duly convicted murderer of a man who ultimately stood against his and his party's political interests.

Message sent and received there, Greg. Just don't be surprised if under certain circumstances some of us standing our ground opposite of you and your skid mark party turn out not to be quite the shrinking pushovers you and your cohorts think we are.

Even for Abbott this is ghastly. If he does pardon that murderer--there is no question he's guilty as charged and convicted; he didn't stand his ground--maybe the feds can file civil rights charges and put in back in the pen that way.

re: Amanda Carpenter's article:

'Hannity asked Scott what policy differences he has with Trump.

“Probably not very many at all,” Scott said. “I am so thankful that we had President Trump in office.”'

And this from the man who wants to be the centrist unifier from the New GOP. How does he expect to bring the country back together and avoid the Civil War 2.0 if he believes that TFG was so effective as POTUS that he is thankful for the Tangerine Tyrant? How can he prove himself to be different than all of the PseudoRepubs, PseudoCons and RINOs who think they can win the Presidency while adhering to the same platform that the Orange Man is pushing - "who cares what happens just so long as we own the libs?" (Short answer, there is no way in hell he can answer either question.)

Ms Carpenter, IMO, is correct in thinking that Scott is just auditioning to be the Mango Menace's VPOTUS, he knows that he stands a less than zero chance of gaining his Party's nomination. And, should the impossible happen with him gaining the nomination, he knows deep down that he stands a less than zero chance of winning in Nov '24.

Please thank Amanda for ruining my morning. I was perfectly prepared to think of Tim Scott as someone who would be a well meaning if ineffective candidate. Amanda tells it like it is. And it’s just depressing. Trump is like Morgoth. He corrupts everything he touches.
