So Wisconsin Gov. candidate Ramthun will call for a "...full forensic physical cyber audit..." Did anyone else wonder how you do a physical cyber audit? Maybe count bits by hand?
“You have school systems that are pushing pre-K when they have demonstrably failing K-12 systems,” Dale Farran warned."
Yet, Vanderbilt conducted its study on 3K low-income students in TN, a state which consistently ranks in the lower half of all states in education overall, in education spending, and in pre-K. If you study only a state that has consistently bad education scores, it shouldn't be surprising that its pre-K results are equally poor.
Before we rush to write off pre-K nationally, we should check the results for pre-K programs nationwide and especially compare outcomes in districts across the economic spectrum. We may find, as I suspect, that the problem isn't the pre-K programs failing but the overall school systems failing to help kids capitalize on the gains they made in pre-K.
There's a reason certain states consistently rank near the top in education scores while other states consistently bounce along the bottom. Perhaps, the bottom rankers would be wise to see what the top-performing states are getting right and emulate it.
The Pre-K thing is such a difficult problem to address. I am retired, but in my working days I had many (mostly men) working for me that had grown up in less than stable homes. Many were ex-cons and almost to a person, raised in single parent homes. Loving your child is not at all an indication of being able to raise them. Our culture is so driven by the mythology that every child is a gift, loved, nurtured…..that simply isn’t true. Many of the guys that worked for me were doing what was done to them, they were not “bad” people but they were COMPLETELY incapable of raising other humans in a way that provided care, comfort, morality, ethics, and on and on. Between 4 of the guys that worked for me, there were 13 baby mamas. Believing that leaving kids like that in dysfunctional, unstable homes is better than pre-k is a hard one to accept. I know how data works, I know the design of a study (particularly in the social sciences) is crucial to achieving results but far too many of the data are corrupted or manipulated to achieve the “desired results”.
It's amusing seeing Khatiri argue that the US, which spends more on defense than probably the next 10 countries combined, is unwilling to invest in being a global power. Maybe percent of GDP that goes toward defense spending isn't the best metric; I think $800 billion is plenty, and most of that gets wasted by contractors. We spend more and get less than any other country in the world, from our military, to our infrastructure, to our health care.
As far as maniacs like Ramthun running around, this is why we can't move on from Trump. This guy's only real qualification is a lie he's willing to tell. And, if he were to win in 2022, does anyone think he'd actually keep that promise to call for a "cyber audit," whatever that is? For the Ross Douthats of the world, who want to argue that 1/6 wasn't such a big deal, and that it's time to move on, and blame the mainstream media for sensationalizing and overhyping Trump and the big lie, no one can move on, because the rightwing media hasn't moved on. These crazies are being fueled by a media ecosystem that folks like Douthat don't want to talk about for some reason, and their crazy spills over into and infringes upon the rest of us who are just trying to live in reality, but cannot.
Nobody ever thinks that the leopards will eat THEIR face. They are supposed to be eating those
Other People's faces. Wasn't there an actual quote from a Trump supporter a few years back to the point that the wrong people were being hurt (IOW, it was okay to use the government to hurt people--as long as it is the RIGHT people).
The danger of this entire excrement extravaganza that is playing out before our eyes (and not just in WI) is that it detracts from and defuses the threat... how can these clowns actually get power and exercise it? Well, they can. A bunch of clowns called the NSDAP managed to take over Germany. It has happened in other places as well.
The whole, ya they tried a soft coup and were bad at it and failed, so no worries now, eh?
Part of their success was that people discounted them or did not take them seriously.
1. “The GOP leadership then stripped Ramthum of his lone staffer ‘for lying about fellow GOP members and using taxpayer resources to put out political screeds.’” Would this be true if he were lying about Dems? Haha, nvmd. We all know that answer
2. How does one conduct a physical cyber audit? Methinks Ramthun doesn’t know what those words mean
The idea that Tennessee schools somehow represent all American schools is really silly when Tennessee is ranked in the low 40s out of 50 in its best years. A better study would be to see what the impact is in CT or NJ for poorer kids.
Glad to see that whilst one party is actively trying to destroy the Republic, the real problem is some idiots in the ivory tower choosing an emoji. Adults don't use emojis nor care about the customs around emojis, by the way
I saw Gazpacho Police open for Jewish Space Lasers in '96. Best concert ever.
I won't ask whether the notorious MTG has actually read anything about Nazi Germany, but has she never even watched an episode of Hogan's Heroes?

I'M TIMOTHY RAMTHUN, AND I AM USING COPPERPLATE GOTHIC FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Are the Gazpacho Police related to the Vichyssoise French? Are they roaming the world with their thermometers?
And Charlie, you have my sympathy for living in Wisconsin.

As with so many of Charlie's columns, I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or hang myself.

The Wisconsin GOPers’ minds are melting all around you Charlie, you can probably see the cheddar pouring out their ears by now
Maybe they caught an unfortunate microwave burst from the Jewish space lasers
First, they came for my soup, and I stayed silent...
(Yeah, I know I posted this on The Morning Dispatch, but I'm very proud of myself, so...)
Couple of questions:

Welcome to Theodore Johnson! Good call, Bulwark people!
