Ah. Ellis Island, where a bunch of immigration officials mostly rubber-stamped admission of hordes of European economic, political and religious asylum seekers and rejects.:) MAGATs whose forebears came that way love to site their Ellis Island entry as though they came on the frickin’ Mayflower. Of course, the Mayflower also contained European asylum seekers and rejects of sorts …

I wish everyone would stop being so hard on Judge Cannon. For one, it reinforces the image of federal judges as "Trump" judges or "Obama" judges, etc, which is not helpful for cultivating a respect for the rule of law. For another, Judge Cannon is a brand-new federal district court judge, whereas the Special Master is a *very* experienced federal judge. So why not give her the benefit of the doubt and assume her ruling was in good faith?

Regarding SL’s tweet about McConnell’s culpability in the continuing danger from Trump, let me say this: truer words were never spoken. And I think that his response to the second impeachment puts lie to the conventional wisdom that he just had to accommodate Trump so he would get his judges. That had some credibility while Trump was President but had passed its expiration date once the election was over. He wasn’t going to get any of “his” judges while Biden was President. And, anyway, he already had gotten more than any reasonable person had a right to expect. And McConnell has to know that, even if he disagrees with the policies of the Democrats, they aren’t the America-hating pedophiles that the Trumplicants paint them out to be. He had to know that a second Trump term would almost certainly be worse than anything the Dems could cook up. But he also had to know that the GOP would take a serious hit if Trump were convicted. So he had a choice – sacrifice his power for the greater good (getting rid of Trump) or continue to look the other way and just hope that something happens to Trump. I’m not even sure that McConnell really thought that he had a choice. He’s been playing the game of power politics so long he couldn’t have done it any other way.

I would really appreciate it if even truth relevant reporters and the Bulwark talk about immigration, that they stop with the assumption that this is due to a "broken" immigration system.

All of these migrants who were sent to MV were legally in in the country pursuant to an asylum claim.

So you're ultimately pushing DeSantis and other semi-fascist Republican talking points on this issue..

Sorry but seems like you don't like the idea of brown people sorting out legal asylum claims.

Why be anti-Trump at this point if you're ultimately going to parrot their talking points?

Hey, Sarah, more like Mitch’s eyelashes have been fluttering for 6 years now - helping Donny every step of the way.

But will DeSantis go full Trump and not pay his lawyers?

In the very beginning of this nightmare we all wondered what Putin had on trump, I continue to wonder that and what does trump have on Rubio, McConnell, Graham and the rest. Sure some of them are just afraid of him, but the rest? Also, all of the unreported and unrecorded contact between the 2 of them. Are the interpreters who were present still alive?

Judge Dearie rocks! I feel so happy to hear his no nonsense approach to this crazy legal decision. Only hope that each of these blows to TRuMp’s attempts to delay and obfuscate will lead to his eventual indictment and imprisonment. Also Rob DeSantis is desperate for attention and guess what he and his cohorts may find themselves in a heap of big trouble for this stunt.

If only Gov Abbott's abdication of his responsibility to keep the lights on in TX could push Beto over the finish line in November. I'm not a huge Beto fan, but defeating Abbott would bring a host of benefits:

1) Gregory W. Abbott would no longer be governor of Texas. This is no small thing. He's proven himself to be a heartless and amoral person.

2) The news of a Gov-elect Beto O'Rourke would come as a welcome shock to our political system.

3) Did I mention that Abbott would be booted out of the Governor's mansion?

This "onesie-twosies" answer from DeSantis feels a lot like Howard Dean's yell that started turning the Democratic primary against him.

Sarah is right. McConnell could have ended trump. But he caved like the manipulative, power-hungry coward he is. Practically no one has done more damage to our institutions (especially the Senate and SCOTUS) or done more to enable trump's depredations than McConnell.

Thanks for bringing Kim back to write her summary, it was brilliant as usual. Attorney's most often try and overwhelm you with their genius, she just nails it time after time. There's no pomp, circumstance or $300 words, she writes so a layperson can read and understand what she is saying. Did i mention brilliant?

Bulwark is one of my first reads in the morning. I always feel better informed (dare i say smarter?) after reading what has been written. While our politics could not be further apart, i feel connected in more ways than i can count. It's exactly what this country needs; coming together.

I would love Tucker to do the same analysis on his private island in Maine. Call it a hunch, but having grown up in a rural AF area, that "3%" for a minority is probably a lot more common than he'd like to admit for small town and rural areas

I wish the Bulwark would stop giving air to DeSantis. I thought you knew better! Sure, he broke norms and maybe even laws, so go after him quietly in court. Sometimes, for the ratings, I feel The Bulwark is becoming The Muckrake, more gossip than exposition. See through this BS, guys. A stunt is only a stunt if you fall for it!

Real leaders don't cave. They lead others to do difficult, often unpleasant, things that benefit others, even at their own expense. See: Cheney, Liz, et al.
