Speaking of Bannon, the fact he, Trump and their ilk are using the courts solely for the purpose of delaying the January 6th's Select Committee's investigation of the insurrection until it's too late really ticks me off. I've been an attorney for 34 years. In civil and criminal proceedings, if someone ignores a subpoena or makes an obviously bogus argument like executive privilege, the matter gets resolved in days, a week or two tops. There is no reason for drawn out legal proceedings to decide these rather simple issues. And when it comes to their judicial proceedings, courts generally are extremely intolerant of people using legal proceedings to "win" via delay. Why then do courts treat legislative action differently?
Contrary to public perception, courts can act quickly when they want to. You have your regular docket, then you have emergency type matters that are expedited. When someone is making bogus legal arguments to effectuate delay, the courts should expedite the matter and give the recalcitrant litigant a boot to the backside.
But there is no reason for Congress to continue running to courts to enforce their own subpoenas. Courts have ruled that Congress has inherent contempt powers, i.e. Congress can enforce its own subpoenas. I don't care that Congress hasn't done it in a 100 years, now is time to start doing it again. Put a few low level people in jail to send a message that these orders are going to be enforced. (I know Congress doesn't have jail cells any more, but jurisdictions needing jail cells rent them all the time. I'm sure DC has a few cells available.) Also, Congress needs to start hitting these people with fines which increase each day that there is non-compliance. Those fines can attach as a lien to property they own, even without a separate enforcement action. That will get their attention.
With all due respect, I'm very, very, very tired of e-mails and tweets and newsletters telling me, "You are not worried enough." I worry CONSTANTLY about this mess we're in. I worry enough for ten people, but what good does my worry do anyone? How does my sitting here worrying and worrying change things one iota for the better? Stop telling me to worry and start telling me how I can help!
Regarding “God decides when we die”, I once had a friend that subscribed to the “When it’s your time, it’s your time” theory of death. I had to remind him that while that may be true, there was no sense cutting in line.
"For another thing, for Christians, death is good." Silly me, all along I thought only fanatical, suicide-bombing, Islamistic terrorists had that idea. Guess we better be on the look-out for death-loving Crusaders of the 21st Century.
As a lifelong leftie who had a job at 18 years old trying to end the Iraq War, Colin Powell’s humanity should be inspirational to all of us. While I still don’t agree with the wars, Colin Powell had a big heart and it showed. I respected him, and I am unsurprised that Fox News and other right wing garbage outlets do not, even though it makes me sad. But apparently, Colin Powell would tape the enemy’s face on a wall in his office, so I got me some pics of Tucker and gang and will Scotch tape them in honor of Powell, a man above pettiness. But I ain’t! F@ck You Fox News!
I read the top section about the constitutional sheriffs and thought.... OMG how do I share this with my friends and family without them thinking I have gone down some rabbit hole of conspiracy theories. If this wasn't sent from Charlie Sykes, I would have thought the sender was out of their gourd. But Charlie did send it.... again, OMG.
They are going to overthrow this government because the Claremont is creating their own ISIS.
As I recall, Robin Hood was faithful to the rightful King, Richard. The Sheriff kept conspiring with John to steal the throne. Robin Hood had broad popular support, and the evil Sheriff, no less than the usurper, did not.
So ... devout Christians don't ever go to the doctor? By that logic I should be able to jump off a building and survive - unless God pre-ordained that I was going to jump off the building at that moment. Which means we must not have free will.
It's almost as if she didn't think this whole thing through.
Believe me when I say I'm very scared. Scared for our democracy and my country and now after reading Joy Pullman's "death is good" Christian essay, I'm terrified. For decades we've been worried about suicide bombers and crazy lunatics with guns and now I have to worry that Christians are a hairsbreadth away from joining them. When did Republicans stop valuing life? It seems to have happened over night or at least over the past 4 years of supporting TFG. Life is still precious to me. It was precious when my beautiful and brilliant 32 year old daughter, who loved her life, died of Hodgkins desease and it's precious every day I wake up and look at my grandsons. Life is precious and so is our democracy.
As a 2x cancer survivor—I can promise you that you are not thinking about “oh yay I’m gonna die!”—these people have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about. Everyone’s all “when it’s my time, it’s my time” as an excuse to be reckless about COVID, but if you told them they had cancer & only a few mos. to live, I am certain that cavalier, lazy, & ignorant attitude would change REAL quickly.
and now that I'm here... can we talk about the American oligarchy? McConnell and aluminum, Manchin and fossil fuels - I'm certain there are plenty of other instances of oligarchs installed in government. What's the word for that, again? I forget.
Where is the DOJ? These people have been actively stating how they made plans to overthrow the government and continue to do so. Where's the investigation? Arrests? Prosecutions?
Is it really possible that the Congressional Select Committee is the only one in government actually investigating these traitors? I hope that's not the case, but it sure feels like it.
I would certainly hope that Joy Pullmann has a very strong DNR order on file. Likewise, I hope she is putting her money where her mouth is and is eschewing all antibiotics and medical treatments. After all, God will decide when she dies and there is nothing she can do about it. I on the other hand will keep using the information and inventions we have on the wonderful earth God has given us and will keep visiting my doctor.
The problem with letting scumbags like Joy Pullmann go to God, like they claim they want to, is that they'll take a lot of innocent "...people (who) are barely literate, perhaps even somewhat mentally disabled..." with them.
The perception of death as a good thing is inherent in Christian philosophy/theology. If you are a good Christian and die you go to heaven. This is balanced to a degree through injunctions against self-destruction. The deterministic aspect is a bit more questionable and is often argued over... with the edge on a macroscopic level going to determinism.

I tried to read the Joy Pullmann article. It took a lot of willpower after the first few references to "a catchy virus," which sounded ignorant.
I missed the advice to forgo hospital care so those who do want to thwart the will of God can get the ICU beds the unvaccinated are taking up.

And I betcha the scumbag is fully vaccinated and in line for her booster shot. Disgusting.
(Believe I got the story of Lorine C. Kaylor from this comments section. Thanks to whomever posted it originally.)
