It's not just Trump and his nutty candidates. It's that a post-Dobbs environment is a loser. Gen Z just told you that. Women just told you that. But what do we see in Florida? An immediate move to criminalize abortion earlier than 15 weeks. And so it goes. The Bulwark is an interesting place because it is fundamentally uncomfortable about this issue. It cannot completely come to grips with the fact that this issue galvanized the Gen Z voters, and this is how it failed to recognize how this issue would prove to be a winner. Hence the plethora of articles and podcasts here that thought the "kitchen table" issues would reign supreme, while failing to recognize this issue was one of those. You can chase the bus on this issue and no one cares, but hey, you caught the bus.

One outcome from this election that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is that especially compared with 4 years ago, the Democratic bench is much deeper. There are a bunch of swing state D’s with solid brands and political skills like Mark Kelly, Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, and others I’m probably forgetting. It augurs well for a good candidate to come out of the 2028 presidential primary.

Just in Mark Kelly won in Arizona. Yes! If Costez Masto wins in Nevada, and there's only an 800 vote gap, the Ds win the Senate!

This isn't specifically about this article but I though you would find it interesting. I have been a member of the Metropolitan Republican Club in Manhattan for more than 40 years and a member of its Executive Committee for more than 30. I also served as treasurer from 2015 to 2019. The Club holds an annual fund-raising dinner that in the past century has featured GOP luminaries in the state such as Dewey, Rockefeller, Javits, Lindsay (he was a Republican congressman before becoming a Democrat), Pataki, Giuliani. The Club will hold its dinner next week and has announced who will the next to join this illustrious list.

Steve Bannon

Not only will Bannon be the honoree and receive an award, but so will his wingman Peter Navarro. Needless to say, this is a significant departure for an institution that has generally been viewed as firmly establishment to the point of being staid.

With all the attention on women & Gen Z coming out to vote because of Roe...I think people are missing the fact that this group is equally fed up with nothing being done about gun violence. Mothers (and Dads) are disgusted that their kids are doing active shooter drills as part of their education and that has become a shrug by the GOP. Gen Z is the oldest kids who've experienced these drills. They don't feel safe on campus, at concerts at football games.

The Highland Park July 4th shooting hit home with voters in wealthy communities. People want to feel safe again. The GOP will not even acknowledge the issue and purposely drives bigger wedges on it. Women, suburban parents of school age kids and Gen Z are fed up.

I think irrational exuberance IS in order. Not because of any possibility of the GOP turning on Trump - too late for that to work, although I plan to enjoy watching it backfire. Irrational exuberance is in order because, in most states, people voted for normal candidates who uphold democracy.

Definition of "Just Desserts"-

If the Dems pull thru on Senate majority then the biggest loser is McConnell and the reason why is something you just can't make up.

Had McConnell not cheated the system to get Amy Comey Barrett rammed thru (and seated on the high court)... then Roe would not be overturned.

But he did and it was....and the unintended consequence was an historical women's turnout to vote against the GOP.

Without Comey on the court....McConnell would have easily been Senate Majority leader in January. Barrett's primary qualification was being anti-abortion. McConnell's primary goal has been seating judges and justices who are anti-abortion and at the end of the day, his own miscalculations are what will likely take him down.

Karma is a bitch, Mitch.

Most of the countries that limit elective abortions to 15 weeks also pay for them through universal health insurance.

Abortion rights advocates in Mexico are trying to get a 12 week limit nationwide.

As long as medically necessary abortions are permissible at any point in pregnancy I wouldn't have a problem with this. (I work for a health system that performs medically necessary third trimester abortions.)

Chris Sununu has already said the election wasn’t stolen. Big deal. It wasn’t.

Tim Scott? The lone black Republican senator they trot out whenever there’s a racist issue? Be serious.

NO, I would NEVER believe a word from any Republican office holder who just spent 6 years on their knees to Trump - completely ignoring the needs of the country. Nope. Never.

If they ditch ALL the current class and start anew with new candidates w/o history or those returning because they quit (Flake) rather than get on their knees and maybe I’d consider listening.
