We need to comprehend how completely Bannon has abandoned the American project of building a republic on a foundation of reason. As David Frum notes, it now matters not at all on the right whether something makes sense. It is tribalism all the way down. And Bannon's influence is in telling his tribe who to hate. Bannon is pure destruction.
If Bannon is an American patriot, as no less an ( apparent ) authority on patriotism than Eric Greitens proclaims him to be, I will proudly wear the title of traitor, and let the consequences be damned.
Bannon and his ilk are not the vessels of the refreshment that the Tree of Liberty requires from time to time. They are the locusts waiting to devour it.
As to Greitens and his pronouncement: Rhodes scholar. Four tours as a Navy Seal. Purple Heart. Bronze Star.

Bannon really is emblematic of Trump and Trumpism in a lot of ways.
He’s fantastically wealthy and influential, but he feels like a rebel and outcast.
He struggles with interpersonal relationships not defined by money or power and so he seeks both excessively.
He claims to fight for the little guy but rips them off at every chance.
He claims to stand against lawlessness and but breaks it at his convenience.
These sort of people destroy nations when left unchecked and the rest of us better to get checking him.
