If as Mr. Saletan recently wrote, Trump was not lying but fantastically delusional, does that support the same degree of culpability legally? I would hope so. I was also struck how the delusional argument immediately reminded me of Trump's entire base. It really feels like the world's largest cult in that sense.

And yet for the average Republican voter, stuck in right wing media - who among them are even reachable? Republican voters seem more like the audience at a wrestling match and no one wants to tell them it is all fake.

Will makes a good point. The Trumpists are so fixated on the Brandenburg incitement standard (just as they were in the impeachment) that they think that evidence that the Proud Boys planned the attack before DJT’s speech exonerates him.

“They had a chance to make their case…”

Rather, they had a chance to ravage it from within. Anyone who might have pled for Trump could have done nothing but obfuscate and troll.

Interesting that “we already know this,” yet the Back the Blue Law and Order crowd keep downplaying it, calling it peaceful, a tourist visit, not an insurrection, not violent indeed. They know nothing.

Liz Cheney is doing what absolutely no effing other person will do. Complete respect even if I disagree with A LOT of her politics because as stated she is doing what no other damn person will do including many democrats. Taking on trump at her own expense and acting as ring leader.

So I moseyed over to right-wing forums. They want to talk about Hillary or Biden.

Didn't have time to read "Morning Shots" until the evening. Was out buying a used vehicle for a granddaughter who's about to go to college. Talk about an emotional day.

Anyway, have to agree that Liz Cheney has such incredibly steady & steely resolve. I'd be extremely happy if my granddaughter's character ends even somewhere remotely close to hers.

Praise to the Bulwark for keeping the light shined on the evil that is Donald Trump. This is no MSNBC crowd. These are conservatives! God bless Liz Cheney and God bless the Bulwark! Cheney 2024!

Any word on the Cheney/Zelensky ticket for 2024?

Well presented comments but regardless of any or all presentations as well written as this one, the final proof is going to be in indictments!

Liz Cheney was remarkable. Capitol police officer was pretty stunning as well. But perhaps the most important thing was making that 9 minute 59 second presentation available in its entirety so that it can be posted and reposted. There were reasons to gasp, reasons to rage, and reasons to cry throughout the 2 hours, but that 10 minute pastiche with timing and comments evoked all of that in an important and portable form. As Sarah says, salience matters; and now there is at least one thing that can be used to renew that. I hope the rest of the hearing will do more of the same and provide more reminder tools.

So my question, will Merrick Garland do ANYTHING? Or is this just to be some historical record that gets thrown into the ashbin when R's retake power and do their Stalinist purge?

I really believe, if there's a chance that we're going to save this republic (and chances actually look slim at this point), Liz Cheney will go down in history as the profile in courage who was a big factor in making it happen.

I absolutely loved the Liz and Benny show last night. However, I have a couple friends that are not so optimistic, eve though they want to see the crooks behind bars. We need to beware of "irrational exuberance". . . . . .
