..."recognizing that turds do not polish themselves." Absolutely priceless. Charlie Sykes you regularly rock my world. Every morning on my very early walk, 'with Charlie on the Bulwark pod', frequently laugh out loud funny. Never underestimate your value to the listening public. Thanks so much.

ChatRON is far too current.

DeSantis reminds me more of Clippy, Microsoft Office's digital assistant of a few decades ago.

Clippy: I see you're working on a pro-Putin foreign policy. Would you like some help with that?

DeSantis: Sure.

Clippy: First, it's important to select a manly font.

Mike Pence has the same problem as every other republican in dealing with donald. They are all political weasels. As such they are fundamentally unserious in that they don't have the courage of their convictions. Donald does have the courage. Of course his convictions are to adopt and practice a criminal view of the world combined with malignant narcissism. What to do? Vote for the Dems. At least they are talking and focusing on real issues. Personally, I'm an independent. I won't vote republican as they are not serious people and seem to think performative nonsense is more important than issues.

The intention was to make speech, and especially speech on any subject not ideologically neutral, as nearly as possible independent of consciousness. For the purposes of everyday life it was no doubt necessary, or sometimes necessary, to reflect before speaking, but a Party member called upon to make a political or ethical judgement should be able to spray forth the correct opinions as automatically as a machine gun spraying forth bullets....

Ultimately it was hoped to make articulate speech issue from the larynx without involving the higher brain centres at all. This aim was frankly admitted in the Newspeak word duckspeak, meaning "to quack like a duck". Like various other words in the B vocabulary, duckspeak was ambivalent in meaning. Provided that the opinions which were quacked out were orthodox ones, it implied nothing but praise, and when the Times referred to one of the orators of the Party as a doubleplusgood duckspeaker it was paying a warm and valued compliment.......Winston turned a little sideways in his chair to drink his mug of coffee. At the table on his left the man with the strident voice was still talking remorselessly away....He held some important post in the FICTION DEPARTMENT....It was just a noise, a quack-quack-quacking....Every word of it was pure orthodoxy, pure Ingsoc....Winston had a curious feeling that this was not a real human being but some kind of dummy. It was not the man's brain that was speaking, it was his larynx. The stuff that was coming out of him consisted of words, but it was not speech in the true sense: it was noise uttered in unconsciousness, like the quacking of a duck.

Syme had fallen silent for a moment, and with the handle of his spoon was tracing patterns in the puddle of stew. The voice from the other table quacked rapidly on, easily audible in spite of the surrounding din.

"There is a word in Newspeak" said Syme, "I don't know whether you know it: duckspeak, to quack like a duck. It is one of those interesting words that have two contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it is abuse: applied to someone you agree with, it is praise.

I'm not sure why Bethany Mandel was so confused.

DeSantis says Florida is where woke goes to die, so I guess it means... old white people?

"This is one of those moments that's gonna go viral." well, at least Bethany Mandel has an ounce of self-awareness, which is about 100000x more than anyone else in that camp has. This clip also demonstrates quite well, by contrast, how super-powered Donald Trump is with shamelessness. Ms. Mandel has a normal, human reaction to being caught in ridiculousness. She just can't pull it off.

Is it wrong to want to throw a rock at Tucker Carlson. I wouldn't, even if I had a rock, but can I want to?

What if Ron is positioning for 2028, not 2024? He doesn't want to run against Trump. As Charlie points out on the podcasts, how would that work? He'd get called all sorts of names, even if he won the primary, Trump would blow up the general election for Ron. It's a suicide mission for Ron in 2024. But if he hangs around without declaring, he's in position in case something (like health, or prison) prevents The Donald from running. If that doesn't happen, Ron endorses Trump for 2024 and doesn't himself run, and he's positioned as a successor in 2028 whether or not Trump wins. Lots could happen between now and 2028, but he can't win the general if he beats Trump in 2024, and his career is over. The 2028 path keeps him relevant for longer.
