The GOP base is now:

Horny bros

Libertarian venture capitalists who need bailing out

InCels

Evangelicals

Christian Nationalists

Trump apologists

DeSantis apologists

Russian “useful idiots”

And the people who are so tuned out that as long as there is an R next to someone’s name, they’re A-OK. (My late 70’s Louisiana in-laws, for instance)

Did I forget anyone?

Honestly, I can’t tell you how bored I am with discussions about “woke.” I think David French’s tweet covers it. Can we please move on?

Horny bro conservatism explains why they get so mad at baristas with pronouns on their name tags and AOC.

Deep down the bros know those ladies won't fuck them, and it gives them the sads.

Horny Bro conservatism and Church Lady conservatism are two sides of the same coin, the idea that men are entitled to pursue their sexual impulses with women.

To a 20 something gamergate dude this means easy access to porn and women who want to hook up via tinder and nobody should get in the way. The entitlement surrounding this has given rise to the incel movement and hookup artists and a whole horrifying internet subculture.

To evangelicals/RadTrads it means getting a women on lock via matrimony. This has real policy implications, because there is still a FUCKING DEBATE about child marriage in this country.

That's why evangelicals didn't really have a problem with Trump's sexual mores. The underlying ethos wasn't "the nuclear family is really good". The driving ethos was "I'm entitled to societally-sanctioned sex, and I'm mad about anything that threatens that." Threats include women in the workforce, gays, single mothers, and any policy that would lessen women's reliance on a male provider (paid maternity leave, SNAP, child-tax credits, universal childcare). Trump is a guy who got all the sex he wanted, with any woman he wanted, and society sanctioned it. That's their dream.

Horny Bros are that ethos taken to it's logical end. "I want sex in the form of hookups and porn and sexy energy drink ads" and they want society to sanction it.

Spoiler alert, the Republican party will sanction it, the evangelicals won't care, and young Republican politicians will embody Horny Bro conservatism. They'll shameless flaunt their affairs and indiscretions as a status symbol, just like Trump did.

I realize this was primarily yesterday but I didn't have a chance to comment, but with respect to pence: those of us who are worried about democracy don't need pence's opinion and those who aren't don't care about pence's opinion.

Horny Bro Conservativism is just being a selective libertarian. Get the government the hell out of my life! (except for the stuff that drives me nuts!)

Oh, that Quinnipiac poll. I love the question on Trump. "Donald Trump: 36 percent favorable, 58 percent unfavorable, 2 percent haven't heard enough about him." Quick, media, there are people in the world who haven't heard enough about Trump! (I have to believe these people have absolutely wild lives. Like swallowed by a whale for 6 years wild.)

And meanwhile, on FOX News, they're telling the world that SVB failed because they donated too much money to BLM, when in reality, they didn't donate any money at all to BLM. The Dominion lawsuit isn't slowing their roll at all - if anything, it's speeding up their complete disowning of the journalistic process.

Wokeness is a right wing boogeyman. If it had any real power, we would still have the Voting Rights Act and Roe in place. Conservatives need to live in a constant state of fear because their zero sum ideology is built on fear.

Re Looking out "for the children": Within the last couple of weeks pro-child Republicans (1) passed legislation to permit minors to work overnight shifts in slaughterhouses; (2) defeated legislation outlawing child marriages; and (3) defeated legislation which would have outlawed administering corporal punishment on disabled kids. So I concede ZERO moral high ground to any of these hypocrites.

If I see one more article on 'wokeness', I'm done here. That term originated in the Black community as a sort of call to arms for people to be aware of the potential for danger or even violence directed at them based on race. Fair enough.

It's devolved on the right into a buzzword thrown at anything they don't like to the point that it's meaningless. Enough of this drivel, Charlie! I don't care what some 'man of the left' writer I've heard of has to say about it anymore than I care what Pudding Boy Ron DeSantis has to say about it.

Bro Conservatism isn't contradictory. Most of the current GOP thinks they should be able to do whatever they want, and everyone else should pay harsh penalties for doing things they find disagreeable. In fact, they regard this as the highest form of freedom!

Horny bro conservatism is conservatism, just the 2020s version. It harkens back to a bygone era where white men were the kings of their castle and women knew their place. It's a version of pre-sixties America adapted for the modern day. It's conservative in that it's the antithesis of progressive.

It's not going to help Republicans win over very many suburban, college-educated women, though.

It's just mental laziness and emotional weakness to constantly blame every issue or 'crisis' on "woke" -- yes, I'm including Josh Hawley (the senator who represents my state). It's like a drinking game right now. Clowns.

Classic deflection: horny conservatives are loudly anti-trans and anti-Woke! because it changes the topic and offers them the chance to put the focus on someone before someone else places it on them instead. When you don't want to answer for your own words and actions, shine the spotlight as long and brightly as you can on someone else. hoping that you can remain in the darkness all the while and keep your skeletons cool and dry inside your own closet. It always amuses me that they think the rest of us have no clue how human nature works.

Horny conservatism is a byproduct of modern Christian hypocrisy and the party's tendency to attract disaffected men. Basically, now that conservatism loudly brands itself as a counter-cultural force, it winds up rejecting a lot of dominant social ideas.

The first dominant social idea it actually rejects is the traditional Christian viewpoints on sexual behavior. Sure these guys are opposed to abortion, but I would gather if polled a large majority would also say unintended pregnancies aren't their problem. Despite the power of the evangelical right, a large amount of non-evangelical conservatives simply don't care about birth control, premartial sex, drug abuse, etc., anymore.

I think this is also about who the party really attracts now. As the Republicans hemorrhage moderates, and most Millennials, you are essentially left the social outcasts of those groups. To be more blunt, these are guys who aren't regularly having sex with their partners. So of course they are enamored with OnlyFans, porn, and so on. That's their outlet.

They can also tell themselves they're only this way because society doesn't accept conservatives, or Christian men, or whatever. This might be true as a general statement, but it's missing the interrogation as to why.

I'm not sure how this qualifies as news. "Horny-bro conservatism" stopped being a revelation when the ultimate horny-bro hero, D. Trump, not only was forgiven for grabbing 'em by the (that thing they won't let you say out loud) but also embraced by them as their role model of how to stick it to The Establishment and get away with it. They've been on the record for upward of a decade as both wanting and having it both ways. Odds are they have more porn than most of us put together. They just paid cash for it so nobody can trace the transactions.
