Do you ever worry that it will come to violence and people will have to physically fight back? I do every day especially when these people are threatening murder. This does/is happening elsewhere in this world and I do think it would be shortsighted to think that won’t happen to us here in the US because a psychopath (actually more than one) is running for government, making threats, and folks are not only ok with it, but encouraging it.

I wonder whether any moderate Republicans seeing the Greiten ad are starting to have a "First, they came for the trade unionists..." moment.

Re: Greitens

I am not necessarily opposed to Republicans shooting each other, but that guy is a crackpot.

Kevin - thank you for this comment. I love the Bulwark and admire their courage and integrity. But they lump all progressives in one basket. Most of us are practical - that's why we nominated Biden. He was my least favorite candidate in 2020 but I voted for him in the primary because I believed he had the best chance of beating Trump.

These sickos hate everyone and the biggest joke is they claim to be Christian. Jesus is turning in his grave so much he must be dizzy. These are the least Christ-like people I have ever heard of.

Dear Charlie, Mona, Sarah and Tim - please stay focused on the people who threaten our democracy and preach violence against anyone who disagrees with them.

A friends says I’ve lost my sense of humor. I confess I have. Unfortunately my mood is circumstance appropriate. While Trump is a clown, a clown with a flame thrower leading a mob of seditionist thugs and the Republican Party while applying a wrecking ball to law, the constitution and reality is DANGEROUS! There is no humor in Trump’s ongoing screeds against election security, or calling his mob out to assault his enemies. When a criminal poses a clear and present danger to the public they are jailed to protect the public safety. Not so Trump. Trump has faced no criminal penalties for violent criminal acts against, people, property and the rule of law. Merrick Garland, you are already way late! Left to fester the Trump mob will destroy the DOJ, the rule of law, you and the Republic. AG Garland, early in his career Hitler was dismissed as a clown. I implore you not to repeat this fatal error.

If pregnancy needs defense, defend it in the form of paid maternal leave.

Ectopic pregnancies "can be life threatening " is in understatement. Ectopic pregnancies are INVARIABLY FATAL if untreated. That's why there is all of the hullaballoo about whether all these abortion laws allow for the termination of ectopic pregnancies.

My initial thought regarding an attempt by TX to secede was "Don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out!" Then I remembered that we already fought a Civil War over this issue. Sorry to say, we are stuck with them, and their lunacy. Better we let them stew in their own juices as the GOP implodes.

Re Texas GOP platform. it's quintessence may be gleened from #24 (single age of majority) and #144 (opposition to 'validat[ing] transgender identity'). #24 means 18-year-olds, having reached the single age of majority, should have an unrestricted right to buy whatever firearms they want. #144 means no transgender medical procedures until reaching 21 years of age.

Is anyone outside the Texas GOP surprised that they have no idea what 'logical consistency' means?

Rough translation of the whole thing: if it's something we like, Texans should be able to do it as soon as they can walk; if it's anything we don't like, we'll either try to outlaw it, or failing that, prohibit it as long as possible.

1. Trump demands "equal time"? Let the unpresident testify, under oath, before the committee!

2. MAGA extremism is the "abnormal lifestyle choice".

3. Perhaps acquiring Texas was not such a good idea after all.

4. As Putin smiles.

Wow…having lived in Texas for a spell, not all that surprising really! Lots of em folks had ingested inordinate amounts of the koolaide a while back…and those who hadn’t well, bless ‘er heart…dazed, bewildered, trapped in a world without time….

The most insane field since…

As long as Republican voters continue to approve of and vote for these candidates, then we will continue to see people who are manifestly unfit assume the highest political offices in this country.

I don't know what percentage of employment/wealth coming into Texas is now coming from Apple and their facility in Austin. It must be significant. Seems to me that's going to be a problem for Texas if the GOP tries for force a secession.

I'm anti-hyperbole and have been very hesitant to apply terms like "fascist" to American politcal actors, but that Greitens ad is the very definition of fascism. Murdering your political rivals? Or anyone with whom you disagree? This vile scum would be right at home as a Brownshirt in 1930s Germany. And he could be the next United States senator from Missouri. Good lord.
