DeSantis rages on and on about covid tyranny, meanwhile in IL almost all mask mandates and proof of vaccine requirements have been dropped as of yesterday. Same as most states. Based on covid transmission data. Just as was the plan from the start. Timing wise, DeSantis looks like he's tilting at windmills even more than usual. His rhetoric sounds unhinged, deranged, and completely isolated from reality.
There is a comment today by some self proclaimed expert that the the Gov of Florida was elected to run the state. If that is true why is he spending time running for President by becomimg a jr Dump. All these characters that think they can out dum Dump haven't got a clue. It is sad to watch and listen to these characters who have no respect for the President let alone the residents of the states they should be running. How many people are dead in Florida because of the Gov's lack of concern about the virus? He is alledged to be an educated person yet look how he govern his state, imagine if he would become President.
The term 'woke' had a specific meaning and origin in the Black community, but like so many other things, it's been appropriated by the Trumpian right as the new 'fake news' - meaning anything they disagree with, including the truth, and especially anything having to do with living up to our country's founding principles of equality and equal justice. And don't even suggest that they have a care for their fellow Americans by wearing a mask or getting a vaccine.
Likewise, they scream 'cancel culture' any time one of them is held accountable for things they've said or done, especially if there are consequences, e.g., a Twitter time out. The horror!
Right-wing speeches anymore sound like the conservative version of the Deepak Chopra buzzphrase generator. And FTR, it pains me to call these people conservative. My late parents were lifelong conservative republicans, and they were galaxies away from this Riff-raff.
I like how Tom Cotton and Ron DeSantis can excuse their silence about Trump and the Right being on the side of Putin by simply saying they can't speak for others they only speak for themselves or it's not part of their job to have an opinion on it. And yet they turn right around, almost in the same breath, and all of a sudden it is their job to speak for Democrats when claiming they are for things like vax concentration camps, rampant socialism, excessive "wokism" or whatever it is they want to complain about or start complaining about countries like Australia and Canada as if those two countries are something the Governor of Florida can comment on but Russia's invasion of Ukraine is not.
I have no time for these idiots. But I have to make time for DeSantis because he's the governor of my state and he needs to go.
Patriots is a misnomer for the GOP sellout party of cowards. I’m embarrassed to be lumped in as an American with them. Whining about Covid restrictions when I just watched a 6 year old sustain deadly injuries in Ukraine. Disgusting.
I know there are Republican leaders whose heads aren’t up their arses, but must it only be Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger who speak out? As a lifelong Dem, I usually had tons of respect even for those Republicans I vehemently disagreed with, but except for Cheney & Kinzinger the rest have shredded any legitimacy they may have had in my opinion. Democrats aren’t the enemy. They seem to be the only ones fighting against what surely will become the “new” voting fraud — those handpicked and put in place to count the votes. To think all the lies & outrageousness from the right (stolen election, Covid disinformation, politicization of public health recommendations, lies about the vaccine, just for starters) all stems from the big lie and the even bigger liar. But sadly, no one on the right has the guts to speak the truth! They all seem to wait til their careers are no longer on the line. It’s only then they speak up and out by writing books about all they witnessed. It’s sickening.
The Bulwark keeps adding writers I've long enjoyed at other publications. It's almost as if I'm in the right place, and smart, capable and motivated people are running it.
The Ding-Of-Bat, "Christina Pushaw," tweeted, "Why would you expect the Governor of Florida, at a conference in Florida, to talk about Russia and Ukraine?"
1. Because It is the most important story/issue on the planet.
2. If he wants to be president in 2024 (two years from now), the 'Guv'na" will have to strap-on some concept of foreign policy beyond having lived in the desert of Iraq.
3. What a perfect name for D-of-B, except that she misspelled it.
"Pshaw" is an interjection used to express impatience, contempt, disbelief, etc.
Take the time to read the interview with Fiona Hill in Politico. Hill has a clear eyed, unvarnished assessment of Putin. She's not one to exaggerate or overstate. So when she talks about Adolph Hitler in the same sentence as Putin and notes World War III started a while ago, I listen.
I hope that DeSantis is in for a rude awakening in 2024, when he realizes that he can't win without moderate support and most moderates can see through the bullshit he is pedaling regarding Fauci and faux-authoritarianism. The only thing that is going to effectively curtail Trumpism in the US is repudiation of the current GOP at the polls. If, in 2022 and 2024, the moderates do their job and vote for normalcy (as they did for Biden and the two senate races in Georgia in 2020) then Trumpism will be done for. It is hard to imagine that there are any more Trump voters out there than there were in 2020. It is very easy to imagine that many of the people that held their nose and voted for Trump have since watched the January 6th assault and now Trump & friends openly supporting Putin and finally decided that enough is enough. I am concerned about GOP attacks on voter access, but I feel like the next two elections will benefit from continuing super charged voter interest, especially from those people who feel their voice is at risk.
Big problem for the white nationalist Trumpified right. Their hero Vlad is attacking those nice white people. It's almost like Putin isn't who they imagined him to be. Or, to be more precise, Putin is exactly who the nationalist "intelligentsia" thought he was, but he has shocked the populist hordes.

“ Cathy was one of the first journalists to warn about the rise of the alt-right, back in the fall of 2025”
Obviously a typo in the date, above. But it made me curious what the intended date is, when Cathy (Welcome!) started writing about the alt-right.
