The Republican party is approaching Blazing Saddles levels of comedy:

" I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists."

I don't think I agree with Liz Cheney about one single policy matter, but man, she has proven herself to be made of steel! She is damn gutsy!

I think Ted Cruz is genuine about the rage he feels, but disingenuous about the reasons.

After knowingly and cynically debasing himself for 6+ years to be the heir-apparent of the MAGAverse when trump either dies or is sent to prison, top GOP leaders and DONORS have anointed DeSantis as the future of the GOP.

There isn't enough popcorn in the world to get us through the show we're about to be treated to courtesy of the GOP and trump. The BIGGEST LOSER and all of his toadies are about to burn it all down around them.

This, my friends, is what I call a boost to democracy.

Nobody else is scared about this? Kari Lake, with no government experience and plenty of exposés about her previous life as a liberal, made her whole campaign about fighting with journalists, denying the election, and basically being a troll as Charlie Sykes calls her. And she almost won. She almost won, folks.

I wouldn't so much call Liz's response to Kari a Cheap Shot as much as I would a Mic Drop - and rather expertly done, if I do say.

"DON BACON (R-Neb.) tells @NBCNews he's willing to work with DEMS to elect a moderate Speaker if 218 Republicans can't agree on a candidate. "

I've heard Liz Cheney's name floated - how delicious would that be in every way imaginable? You don't have to be a member of the House to be Speaker.

Kari Lake loses. In other surprising news, water is wet, the Beatles have broken up, and the Titanic's arrival in New York has been canceled.

Anyone who is even remotely objective about the matter understands that Kari Lake is the reason why Kari Lake lost. She will feel sorry for herself, pout and whine about the outcome, and wishcast that everyone who opposed her is an enemy who ultimately shall be vanquished. She will invent conspiracies and plots and schemes that kept her from her supposed destiny. But then there is reality. And the reality is that she said and did pretty much everything she could with her foul mouth, confrontational behavior, and bad attitude to alienate pretty much everyone who lives outside of the MAGA bubble. She positioned herself as an asshole, and people came to regard her as an asshole, to the point of losing a winnable election when people chose not to vote for an asshole when they had a better option than an asshole.

Gee, who knew? As it turns out, pretty much everybody but Kari. I noted a few days ago that I felt not Schadenfreude at the waning influence of the Trumpists and the impending GOP cannibalism for power, rather a sense of vindication that voters were smarter than the candidates. But in this case it really is Schadenfreude. I can't read and hear enough about Landslide Lake blowing it for all the world to see. Pass me a sugary sweet non-dietary drink and something bad for me to eat while I enjoy this sordid spectacle to its fullest.

As a Maricopa County resident, I want to thank three people:

1. Sarah Longwell. I saw your Republican Accountability Project billboards all over. Thank you for investing so heavily in our races.

2. Liz Cheney. You put your money where your mouth is to support pro-democracy candidates whose policies on other issues you surely disagree with. Thanks for being a model of country over party. And lastly:

3. Kelli Ward, AZ GOP Chair. You've done more than anyone to get Democratic candidates elected in Arizona since you (ascended?) to leadership. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Every time I've come across that Liz Cheney tweet this morning, I get the same warm, tingly feeling all over again. The soft, classy knife between the ribs never grows old.

Arizonans know BS when they see it.

Now that made me laugh out loud.

Fantasy time - Trump goes in front of the cameras for his big announcement. The FBI, Garland, US Marshals arrive to arrest him for theft, sedition and a long string of other crimes, and Trump melts on camera into a crying, whining pool of orange goo.

The Hobbs victory is the most surprising of all, and the most satisfying. The only thing that might be more satisfying is seeing Kevin McCarthy denied the gavel. I don't think I've ever seen such a collapse in either political party over the span of one week. And tonight at 9pm, the hole just gets dug deeper.

It's rare that it's so clear this early which party is going to win the presidency in 2024. The GOP has gone from red tsunami to abject humiliation and total disarray in just seven days. And it couldn't have happened to a more deserving group of misfits.

I hope the Lake defeat means BDE is stricken from our political lexicon.

Kari Lake losing is all the holidays at once and a decent consolation prize for (likely) losing control of the House. Speaking of... I expect the anticipated GOP victory in the House to be the mother of all Pyrrhic victories (which, ironically enough, also involved elephants).

I guess being an exploitative TV Personality willing and eager to cultivate the Nutjob Vote at the expense of Democracy is so *very* 2016...
